Updates
Hi all!
Sorry for my recent silence. We have hit the really stressful part of our move. The past couple of weeks have been filled with end-of-the-school-year activities, a Housecooling Party, speaking to a number of journalists, house inspections, construction projects, searching for housing, getting our older child off to camp, and hosting a meet-and-greet for a fantastic candidate for Attorney General (if you are in Missouri, check out Elad Gross!). All of this on top of my regular job.
With school out, we visited the Arch and City Museum, as clearly it is illegal to move children out of St. Louis without doing those things.
We are now beginning the packing process in earnest. Well, we are trying to begin the packing process in earnest. It is really hard to find the motivation to pack. Our kid at camp really struggled the day before leaving, because she both wanted to go to camp and didn’t want to come home to a house she no longer recognizes. Little sis has been having difficulty going to sleep at night. Truly, we are all a mess.
We think we have a rental. The one downside is that it will not be available until about 10 days after we leave our house here. We have a few potential plans in place to figure out what to do with that time. I try not to think about the details too much (aside from when I’m actively working on forming plans), because I burst into tears. This is all so overwhelming. The easiest solutions are all really expensive. Any expense feels hard to justify when we’ll both be completely unemployed in two weeks.
This is what the state of Missouri has done to us.
Once we are settled, I hope to post some educational pieces about what gender-affirming care actually looks like, and about why banning trans people from playing sports is manufactured outrage. Until then, I’ll try to pop in to offer updates. Thanks for following along with our journey.
